TEMPORARY PERMANENCE

An informational center about the ecology of the Galapagos that not only gives information about nature and it’s ecology but takes on a playful role with nature. Based on the tides, Temporary Permanence works with the timing and displacement of people and program.  Gathering areas are pushed to the edges and crowd the other programs as the water starts to take over the project, changing the way the pavilion is experienced and used.

The lower level of the pavilion turns into a platform for exploring the life that inhabits the shallow waters or an area where you can soak your feet when the tides are high but returns to its basic function as a gathering area when the water is low. The changing conditions of the pavilion allow visitors to participate in this playful exchange as well as experience nature first hand.
